Dr Mahathir, in keynote speech, blames PAS and PKR for Malay disunity
KUALA TERENGGANU: The anticipated 5,000 people failed to turn up at the Melayu Bangkit rally here Monday, and the organisers blamed the FIFA World Cup for the low turnout.
"Probably, they (locals) were all tired after watching the World Cup telecasts, while many of those employed could not get leave," rally organising chairman Razali Idris of Gerakan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Consciousness Movement) told The Star.

The organiser expected 5,000 and not 50,000 or 100,000 because they know they cannot get such support. In spite of that only 1,000 or one fifth (1/5) attended. Organisers blamed on FIFA world cup. It is a shame that this is how these organisers think of their race. If it is so important to the Malays, not just 5,000, 100 times more will be there even if there is a FINAL FIFA world cup game going on. If the speakers invited are those who speak the truth and with good intention to unite Malaysians, the event will be overwhelmed with not just Malays but Malaysians of all walks of life. If Raja Petra is among the speak, I am sure that stadium will not be enough to house the participants.
The time has come for those racists regardless of whether they are in politics or NGOs to accept the fact that Malaysians have now realized that they have been lied to for years and no longer interested to listen to such lies. The actions by the organisers and speakers were intended to split the country and not unite. They are afraid of meritocacy because it will made Malaysians particularly the Malays to become better and realise that they have been fools all these years. But they did not realise that Malaysians including the Malays already aware of this and this was reflected in the general election results and also by election results. I say, aren't real Malays already a minority in Malaysia after Mahafiraun miraculously became a 'Malay' from a mamak and he allowed Indons and other foreigners to become Malays overnight too. Well done to the Malay race for shunning Perkosa and all who are associated to it. Well done for shunning Mahathir and not listening to his lies anymore. Well done Malays race for rejecting UMNO. Keep at it and the Malay race will grow into a respectable race, a race able to live well and harmoniously with other race, work together with other race without feeling small or feeling that they got where they are only by virtue of being a Malay but they got where they are because of merits, just like the others.
