Another Version to counter Mahathir's UMNObaru version

So, with due respect to Dr Mahathir, it was actually the other way around. Umno was the one that split the Malays. And now Umno grumbles that the opposition is splitting the Malays? And, worse still, Umno split the Malays to serve the British interest and as a British ‘running dog’.

Dr M blames PAS, PKR for dividing Malays

By Shazwan Mustafa Kamal, The Malaysian Insider

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed delivered a history lesson on Malay unity today and blamed PAS and PKR for dividing the community because of what he claimed was their greed for power.

He also described PAS and PKR among many other Malay-based political parties as Umno splinter groups responsible for disrupting unity among Malays.

Speaking at the National Library today at a special “Bicara Perdana” talk, he said that it was a historical fact that the first political party which was united and fought against the British for Malay rights was Umno.

He added that it was the unity of the Malays in backing Umno that made the British pull out and abandon their plans for a Malayan Union at the end of World War Two.

The former PM pointed out that it was the Umno ulamas, who had split from the Malay nationalist party in the 1950s to form PAS.

This was because they were “dissatisfied” when they were not given positions within the state and federal legislatures, according to Dr. Mahathir.

“PAS, in the beginning, were ulamas from Umno. They were upset that they were not chosen in the legislative and state legislative assembly...more educated and English-speaking Malay leaders were chosen and they were not happy with this.

“If you get selected, you become a YB, and then you got paid RM300,” he said.

The former premier said that these ulamas went into seclusion, then formed a new party so that they could “contest” to become candidates.

“The split between the Malays started just because they wanted positions. That was when PAS was formed.

“Later on the same thing happened with Keadilan, as well as the now-defunct Semangat 46..all these were splinter groups from Umno.”

Dr Mahathir also defended the social contract, the so-called unwritten agreement between the Malays and the non-Malays during independence, by affirming that without the agreement, Malaysia would not have been formed.

“If there was no social contract, the terms and conditions of allowing citizenship to non-Malays would have not taken place. One million outsiders were given citizenships at the time.”

Mustapha Hussain: Malay Nationalism Before UMNO

THE MEMOIRS OF MUSTAPHA HUSSAIN, 1910-1957

KMM: The Young Malay Union (1938)

Dr Burhanuddin Al Helmi

Dr Burhanuddin, a colossal name in Malay left politics, was not a KMM member. KMM only contacted him a week after the fall of Singapore. Ibrahim Yaakub and I interviewed him before suggesting that the Japanese Military Administration employ him as Advisor on Malay Customs and Religion. Dr Burhanuddin accepted the post graciously. Had he declined, KMM would have brought in Ustaz Abu Bakar Al Baqir, founder of the religious institute, Madrasah Maahad Il Ihya Assharif in Gunung Semanggul, Perak.

Dr Burhanuddin worked in Singapore initially, but when the Japanese Military Administration for Sumatra and Malaya was incorporated, and its HQ moved to Taiping, Perak, so did Dr Burhanuddin. We should commend Haniff bin Sulaiman, a faithful Taiping KMM member for introducing Dr Burhanuddin to the public in Perak through talks and religious sermons. That made it easy for the Malay Nationalist Party (MNP), the successor of KMM, to gain a foothold in Perak, when Dr Burhanuddin founded it in 1945.

Dr Burhanuddin was a remarkable religious figure, who combined the logic of science and Islam most effectively. Before World War II, he was a schoolteacher in Singapore and dabbled in politics from a distance. He had written many protest letters to the press on the Israeli Occupation of Palestine, and was once arrested and detained in a Police lock up. Although not a KMM member, he was very influenced by it.

Ahmad Boestamam

According to a statement given to me dated 12 November 1975, Ahmad Boestamam, another great name in Malay left politics, joined KMM a couple of months before the Japanese invasion. He took over the post of Assistant Secretary from Abdullah Kamil, who had left Kuala Lumpur. Boestamam stated that although he was a member of the daily Majlis editorial board, led by Ibrahim Yaakub in Kuala Lumpur, he was never once invited by Ibrahim Yaakub to join KMM, although two other editorial board members (Abdul Samad Ahmad and Mohamad Salehuddin) were.

Endnotes To Chapter 18

British Police Officer J. Birch, who once served in Bagan Serai, Perak was sent to arrest me in Taiping, but the Japanese military’s speedy advance forced Birch to retreat. He diverted to Teluk Anson (now Teluk Intan), hoping to arrest Raja Yahaya, a Police Officer absent without leave, but Birch was unlucky to be in the Japanese way. He was killed.

******************************************

Okay, you have read Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s lecture on history, which I republished above. Now, compare Dr Mahathir’s version of history to mine. And, to support my version, I offer you just a very small extract from Mustapha Hussain’s book, Malay Nationalism Before Umno.

If you were to read the entire book (which I have), you will discover that the Malays united to fight for independence from Britain long before the Second Word War and long before Umno was born in 1946.

Then the British ‘created’ Umno. And I have also written about this, about ten years or so ago, which was published in Harakah, when I interviewed an ‘old boy’ of MCKK, Datuk Andika, who died a couple of years ago in Kuala Terengganu at the age of 100.

Datuk Andika related how he was encouraged and financed by the British to set up the first Umno branch in the state of Terengganu, which was in Dungun.

The British allowed Umno to campaign for Merdeka the length and breadth of Malaya. But when the KMM people did the same, the British detained them without trial.

In short, the Malays were already united long ago. And they were united against the British. But along came the British who created Umno. And the purpose of creating Umno was to split the Malays and kill KMM.

It was actually a very clever strategy. The British in fact did the same in the Ottoman Empire, if you were to study the history of Lawrence of Arabia. The British invented this marvelous strategy called ‘divide and rule’. And it worked all over the British Empire.

So, with due respect to Dr Mahathir, it was actually the other way around. Umno was the one that split the Malays. And, worse still, Umno split the Malays to serve British interests and as a British ‘running dog’. And now Umno grumbles that the opposition is splitting the Malays?

And let Royal History Professor Khoo Kay Khim prove me wrong.

Naturally the split is due to UMNO as there will be always a group of malay who could swim and another that cant ......

This "swim" thing is in relation to RPK s speech on the problems with some Malays

Pardon me friends of MT, and with a thousand apologies Raja Petra that I have to "tumpang" a posting I wrote in Pak Kadir's blog in case he holds it back. Written for the benefit of his readers whom I'll redirect if my entry/posting get gloss over. Again, my apologies and sincere thanks for taking up space.

[ Jam hampir pukul 3 pagi tetapi tak mengapa memandangkan saya tidak payah masuk kerja hari Jumaat, saya tetap mendebat pandangan para anon-anon yg menulis dgn tujuan jahat.

Ada anon yg memberi pendapat mengenai kes bangkai babi hutan yg dilontar kedalam perkarangan masjid, saya merasakan perlu saya meleteh sedikit dgn pendapat saya sendiri.

Kalau tak silap saya, babi hutan boleh dimakan kerana ianya halal, tapi janganlah makan pasal casper yg berkata tetapi sendiri tanyalah dgn yg berilmu ya.

Kini, saya pula yg nak bercerita tentang Raja Ular Putar Alam Dr.Mahathir yg kian lantang bersuara.

* Itu saja, tak payah lah menulis cerita bukan-bukan dikalangan anon-anon yg besar kemungkinan para ahli UMNO yg paling banyak songlap dana rakyat.

Disini saja tamat tulisan, tugas saya selesai buat pagi ini. Salam saya ucapkan kepada semua. ]

It took me about 40 minutes to write the above and I wasn't going to let it go to waste, didn't want to chance it, just in case my time and efforts goes to waste if posting was held back by blogmaster.

To those who understand Malay, read for your own amusement this rebut I wrote to counter the vile lies in Kadir Jasin't blog. There are some posters, the many anon's who leave their mark to incite those gullible. I feel it my duty to spend a little to send some back towards them.

Regards all and thank you for this imposition RPK. I trust you and better half are well. Do take care a perhaps take some time to regale us with tales of living without being detected, daily trials in the life of Marina and RPK. Should make for interesting reading.

This grudging old fart is not getting anything right, except he continues to do what he should not ,i.e. splitting once again an already lamed and corrupted UMNO and an outdated Perkasa blinkers.

When UMNO politicians speak, they do so at their own peril because whatever they say simply leaves them open to being ridiculed and put down.

Making up facts, giving excuses, stirring up tension.

Either they think the malaysian public is dumb, or they themselves are. We're doomed either way....

With information no more a premium and its dissemination out of UMNO's control, news and article such as is definitely cause for concern for those in the Evil Empire.

Up to this point I think we can all sense UMNO's demise, so to think, how much more ground can they lose or flip it the other way round, how is UMNO going to make up for lost ground ? I sense some rear guard action from within (news of jet engine theft is perhaps a feeble attempt to rouse the ground against Najib), that leaves UMNO doing the inevitable, create some mayhem to trigger an emergency.

Recent events would show that UMNO is not doing itself any favours. Burning of churches would cause anxiety across the board and that has me wondering, the only reason they are shooting themselves in the foot is just reminder to us of their presence, no more no less.

Having lost key states with only room for more lost, I wonder what the factions in UMNO are plotting next to unseat Najib ? Jokes aside - that is one heckuva burden, getting two for the price of one - Rosmah notwithstanding.

Assuming everything runs as schedule, I see UMNO or what is left of it, occupying the opposite aisle in Parliament in a role reversal. I take this opportunity to assure the bodoh's/ultra's that minority leader's are well capable of serving the interest of the majority.

A look through history would indicate there was indeed a period when an obscure Chinaman took on such a task. Little known but when the Brits abandon Malaya having been driven out from their last stand in S'pore, a gentleman by the name of Tan Chin Tuan was doing just that.

When the Union Jack was being lowered in S'pore, members of the Executive Council that ran the municipal were the last remaining form of British rule in Malaya. Tan Chin Tuan being a councilor fled to Perth together with all vestiges of govt. That choice of Perth, Australia is not hard to figure I guess due to her proximity to Malaya, and from there, this lone man was in constant communication with the British war cabinet, its commanders in India and anyone who would listen in effort to liberate Malaya.

During this period of Japanese Occupation, there was an active US Navy fleet in the Pacific but from history we know that this was the same fleet that Gen.MacArthur lead into the Philippines. As much as Tan Chin Tuan would have liked to pressure those high above the use of this fleet to confront Japanese forces in Malaya, that agenda wasn't a priority to the war commanders. Malaya was on its own and the CPM, the only active opposition that fought against Japanese invaders.

Effectively, this Chinaman was the civilian face of what was left of British rule in Malaya while history would also tell us that Tun Razak was working on the side of Japanese invaders. This is probably a morsel of history UMNO doesn't want to highlight, probably not incorporated into our history books, only to leave our school kids ignorant to pertinent fact of the era.

Why Tan Chin Tuan ? The man by all counts was a man of means, Chinese of Straits born pedigree and if you know your history, members of the Baba-Nyonya community had long made the Spice Island home for generations, who were also front runners of the rubber trade.

Unlike the many tycoons in the tin trade who had stronger ties to China, Straits born Chinese owed no allegiance to China or didn't wear it on their sleeves. They accumulated wealth and property derived from mercantile trade, only to prosper significantly during the first boom of the rubber trade in Malaya - their land holdings a convenient place to plant rubber trees by the thousands.

The wealth from the rubber trade can be seen all over today's economy. The OCBC group and members of the Lee clan(Lee Foundation rings a bell ?) are perhaps the poster child of wealth derived from that era still dominant today in S'pore as well as M'sia( F&N, Great Eastern, Keppel Shipyard and numerous trading houses, property holdings too various to mention).

Wealth can gow to past through generations if handled correctly, all of which makes me wonder what those in the UMNO clan, the few chosen one's have in mind for all their ill gotten gain ? We know the scions of Mahathir have a sizable stake in San Miguel Corp, Daim is all over Africa but what about the rest - Rafidah and her stolen millions, Taxi Boy and Son or even IGP Musa Hasan ??? Mana bawa lari ?

"...One million outsiders were given citizenships at the time." - TDM

Who's are the real outsiders? Aren't you one of them, TDM? Does citizenship 'given' justify for generations of enslavement under your rule? I know, I know, you will say, "Go and blame your ancestors for 'signing' the Social Contract." If we knew about this Social Contract, do you think anyone born after Merdeka would choose to be born?

Say we're 'outsiders' are considered 2nd-class citizens under your NEP discrimination schemes, do we pay 2nd-class taxes and not oblige to bow down to you?

Shouldn't you, TDM and your bunch of cronies be brought up to the International Court for participating in Slavery (an entire nation) under the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in violation of article 1. all the way to article 30.
http://www0.un.org/en/documents/udhr/

Infact every BN leader since the 'Social Contract' emerges should be on trial for enslaving its own citizens!

With the way it was, with so much of a British influence one would wonder how did we take a turn for the worst in our Education System..? Or why did we not have a very good public transportation? Why were Malaysians not aspired to succeed like the whites, instead been let to take a more negative attitude towards progression to be apart of this fast moving world..

Will we ever see the day when the truth of our history is dissimated to our younger generations? Will we be proud once again to be Malaysians? Will the Malays ever settle down to first see themselves as Muslims where Islam has in all its power in the teachings to grant a person the right way to live amongst others?
