Come to think of it, we have very little to show as our (or Malay) cultures. It is of no surprise that these cultures came from Indonesia as the original Malays came from there anyway. In fact, if you care to look deeper, you will find that the Malays have very few cultures that they can celebrate or put on show. All those festivities are mostly Arabian (or if you insist, Islamic), and a lot too came from India during pre and post Paramesuara era. The northern Malays have Thais too thank for their infused culture. So there is nothing to be proud of, except our consistence as Malaysians.

So Malaysian Melayu's all having borrowed culture and borrowed languange? Melayu no culture of their own meh? Bumiputera which malaysian Melayus are so proud of is an Indian borrowed term also...LOL Imagine having no cultue of their own why?

They have a new culture, a crutched mentality culture. This one nobody wants to claim and they brought it on to themselves through years of mollycoddling.

Truth be told that the origins of the Malaysian Malay & their self-perceived heritages will be revealed in the passages of time. For now, let the UMNO/BN buddies roll & bask in the mud of ignorance. It's all about one-eyed men being kings and all that sort of thing.
Chapters of past events will always evolve when the truth ultimately creep's up the arse like an unavoidable itch. It's only the committed who will evolve this change & glad to note; there's a whole bunch out there main-stage. God Bless 1Malaysia.

i have a keris passed by many generations! If indonesia wants to claim,so what?! Btw keris is much older than these two countries.its the weapon of nusantara world .even philipinos have keris of their own. And in the past ,exchanging culture did happened. For example, the chinese lion dance was originated from Persia or today's term, Iran. Not originally chinese!and Kungfu too! Kungfu originated from India popularized by buddhist monk. Owh even Buddha originated from India!

Why is Indonesia making all the fuss?
Don't they know that the Malays in Peninsular Malaysia are pendatangs from Indonesia? Naturally, food, clothing, songs, dances, etc would have come together. With the hisbucus flower. Malaya Raya ke atau Indonesia Raya, both same same la!
On behalf of all the Pendatangs, I humbly apologise for the (mis)behaviour of cocky pendatangs who seem to have selective amnesia. They have forgotten that they are from Acheh, Minangkerbau (Rais Orphan), Sulawesi (Najis Mongolia), Java (Disney Toyol), Palembang (Tg Adnan Mansur), etc.
Please understand and forgive these earlier immigrants for talking big even though they are stupid and lazy. They have adopted the Hindu Ceremonies, Christian Clothings and Toaist Angpows.

Just goes to show that we are a nation of immigrants. It's just a matter of how far back we want to go. America is a nation of immigrants too, and it is 233 years old.
The difference between us and the USA, is that they embraced that notion of being a nation of immigrants, and embraced all who chose to go over there, then collectively mould their own national character.
Over here we chose not to subscribe to that notion whole-heartedly, but instead selectively label some as immigrants (even if their forebears have lived here longer than many others) while endowing other newer immigrants acceptability as prince of the soil.
But culture being practices by societies within their tribal or ethnic groups tend to follow wherever the practitioners go. So you have the problems of all these hoo-ha with Indonesia since most Malays are descendants of the greater Malay Archipelago which ran the whole swathe of S.E Asia, including the Indonesian islands.
The truth of the matter is that the Malaysian govt never did encourage a real Malaysian culture to emerge. A 'new' culture can happen if only we are encourage to think as Malaysians first, ethnic origin second.
Anyway, what's the big deal with all these claims to cultural heritage stuffs. Yours, mine, theirs, ours. So what? World is getting smaller by the day. It doesn't matter. Let the Indonesians claim all they want. Since we have so many of Indonesian origins among us, why bother with that claim. In fact, we should be proud of it. It just shows we can do some of those 'cultural stuffs' better. Seen Indonesian batik? Seen ours? Which is better? Eaten Indonesian sate? Our Kajang satay? Which better?

W A I T . . .
What's wrong with the Malay culture is a mixed of Indonesian, Arabian, Indian, Chinese, etc?
We don't see the US Americans shame of this since they are also "borrowed-culture" groups.
We don't hear any Malaysian Indians denying they are practising Indian culture..
We don't hear any Malaysian Chinese denying they are practising Chinese culture..
I am scratching my head...
W A I T . . .
I SEE THE LIGHT!
It all boils down to classifiation of Bumiputra!
If they are classified as Indonesian descendant, then they are not Bumiputra! They will be just like any anak Indian and Chinese..
I think this is a the main reason.. I am scratching my head telling myself..

Whatever or whoever culture is that's not important? It is not appropriate to wave a keris, knife or M16 in a threatening manner. I can't see any politician can get away with that in a developed country.
written by Fairminded, October 02, 2009 08:15:17
To be fair it is impossible to trace the origin of all the origins of these cultural icons and to claim sole possession of them. It is purely academic and traced to a point in history that is traceable or just to point of interest. For example, for arguments sake, wayang kulit is not Indonesian but is of Chinese origin. In China a form of "wayang kulit" had been a form of folk drama close to a thousand years, when Indonesians were just settling the Islands as seafaring normads. You can still see these performances in China depicting court dramas, follores etc that are dated way back in time when Indonesia is not even existing as a nation. There are bigger issues, like corruption, poverty etc for Malaysians and Indonesians than to waste our energy fighting over these minor issues.

tenukajaib, as with Malays, Indians, Chinese dll, not all of us, but some of us are what we are today (racists) because the BN gomen knowingly and purposely made it that way to divide and rule us. Historically, all the cultures of India, China, Malacca, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines etc had traded with each other and had their people mixed and settled in all these lands. It is totally not surprising that we share some of the same cultures till today. I like to think that Malaysia is a melting pot of all these great cultures and our ancestors had all lived together peacefully over the centuries until recently corrupted with the supremacy (ketuanan) crap.

Most of our malay culture are directly link to indonesia.
If you remember ,a prince from Empayer Majapahit.. If history don't fail me, the prince is Paramesara.Came to our shore and discover Melaka.
The rest should be history. So I am convince that some of Malays are descendent's of the India empayer and I think indonesia was also under Empayer Majapahit during that time.

Why they want to claim certain stuff as Indon culture or Malay culture really puzzle me, to me and also probably many thousands of us, both Malay an Indon culture are the same. Even the Bahasa Melayu and Indonesia are largely similar, are Malaysia and Indonesia going to sue each other over using each other language in the near future?
I think one of these countries must apply for Copy Right over their official language and also many other customs immediately.
Not only did we start to argue about Malay or Indon culture, some Chinese in Malaysia and Singapore are also jumping into the band wagon arguing and trying to claim Chicken Rice or Char Koay Tiaw as their National dish or which clans invented the dish first. As far as I knew my grand aunty who came from Hainan Island already cooking the chicken rice and making rice balls in the 1950s.

Even the much cherished Hang tuah is a chinese by descent. So do Hang Jebat, Hang Lekir, Hang Lekiu. But the malay think that they are malays...
At least other nation do their homework first before claiming that it is theirs. The malays in malaysia even have the gal to say that they own malaysia and think that they are the original occupants of malaysia. In fact they are the occupier. They forget that they come from Indonesia making them the pendatang themselves.

How can the truth that matters be accorded its rightful place by UMNO/BN ?? They are 1st class bullshitters & justificators. There are more important issues than cultural heritage. It gets watered down all the time by religious bigots, our ministers who knows all even justifying a corrupted fella as the best representation or arresting someone on ISA charges for their own protection etc. This nation standard is going to the pooh and we have to get these idiots out the sooner the better. Our mentri's have been menteri's for donkey years -- where is new blood??? Looks like a case of new bloods are bodohs or are these emperor mentri's warming their seat to steal more.
